Where are the best Caribbean snorkeling spots?

Prefer snorkeling areas reachable from shore, rather than typical dive boat excursions. Enjoy shallow waters protected by a coral reef. No desire to compete with scuba divers on boat charters; sticking with snorkeling and free diving.

My favorite spot is in St. John (USVI) at the Virgin Islands National Park, specifically Trunk Bay. If this is in conjunction with a cruise you will probably have St. Thomas as a port. Take the ferry to St. John and a taxi/local jitney to the park. Crystal water protected by a reef! Perfect Zen moments when the sky and water meet and you can't tell which is which. You'll love it!

Bonaire, Netherland Antilles. The island is not the greatest, but the water and the fish under sea is BEAUTIFUL

Coki Beach - St. Thomas USVI
Buck Island, St. Croix. It's not free like you want, have to pay glass bottom boat, but there's an underwater trail you can follow. It's the only underwater US national park--or something like that.
Cozumel, Mexico. Go to Cancun and take a ferry boat from there to Cozumel. It only costs a few dollars. There are incredible things to to in this area.it's a heck of a vacation.
Stingray City, Grand Cayman Island
In the water duh!! lol
I agree, Trunk Bay at St. Johns is great for snorkeling and ree diving.
